Tien Minh jumps to 7th in the world
(VOV) - After winning the US Open Prix Gold championship on July 15, Vietnamese player Nguyen Tien Minh has leaped two places to 7th in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings.
Minh was the top ten’s only major mover.
The 7,000 points gained from his victory pushed his total to 55,166 and moved him ahead of both Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia and Jan O. Jorgensen of Denmark.
The rise in rankings could help him secure a more advantageous draw for the world championships, to be announced on July 22.
Minh will remain 7th in the world at least until those championships as all his rivals focus on preparations for the year’s most important tournaments. The World Championships will run from August 5–11.
His American victory also earned him US$9,000 in prize money.
Minh dropped out of the world’s top ten in March last year, and it took him six months to claw his way back.
