Tien Minh enters World Badminton Champs’ semi-finals
(VOV) - Leading Vietnamese player Nguyen Tien Minh has advanced to the semi-final of the World Badminton Federation (WBF) World Championship after defeating Denmark’s Jan O. Jorgensen 2-1 on August 9.
Minh, who had won five of their last seven meetings, appeared destined to extend this success, jumping out to an 8 point lead before taking the first set 21-8.
But Jorgensen fought back. Despite trailing the second set 17-15, the Danish player turned things around with 6 consecutive points and levelled the match at one set apiece.
The decisive set was nail-biting struggle. Minh managed to set up a match point at 20-16. Jorgensen refused to surrender, equalising the set 20-20.
The Vietnamese athlete dug deep to claim the last two points, the set 22-20, and the match 2 sets to 1.
Minh will now meet his Chinese rival Lin Dan in the championship’s semi-finals.
