The Thai Culture Ministry is presenting a major cultural event, ASEAN Plus Ramayana, as part of the ASEAN Cultural Expo 2016, celebrating the 234th Year of the founding of the Rattanakosin era.
The celebration, which started on April 20 and will conclude on April 24, showcases Thailand's diversity in religion, arts, and culture, which are valuable social and economic assets. The fair also displays the Kingdom's readiness to become ASEAN's cultural exchange hub, a center for studying different cultures and the lifestyles of the member states.
The epic story Ramayana has been chosen as the center of the event, due to the fact that it is familiar folklore that has long existed in most of the ASEAN countries.
Various shows are being performed on stages in Sanam Luang, the National Theatre, the ASEAN Cultural Center and Museum Siam. These attractions include the Ramayana play performed by actors from eight ASEAN nations plus India, a Khon mask play, traditional musical concerts, and many other plays staged by ASEAN member states.
Residents are invited to join religious rites and merit making to honor the beloved Kings of the Chakri Dynasty and attend exhibitions on the Chakri monarchy and ASEAN nations.
