Thailand beat Malaysia for U21 final berth in Can Tho
Thailand came from behind to beat Malaysia and enter the International U21 Football Tournament’s final in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on October 26.
Thailand walked away with a 4-2 victory after a penalty shootout in the second semi-final game.
Malaysia scored three goals in the first half, but Thailand leveled the count in the second half, forcing a shootout where all Thai players scored and two Malaysians missed.
Thailand will face Hoang AnhGia Lai Arsenal JMG, which beat defending champion Vietnam 4-3 on October 25, in the October 28 final.
Earlier, the second-running Australian Sydney team failed to advance to the knock-out round.
Malaysia ’s defeat means last year’s top three teams have all been ousted.
