Tens of thousands to attend Vietnam cultural festival in Japan

(VOV) -It was unveiled at a press conference on May 13 that Japan will host a Vietnamese cultural festival on June 13-14 at the Yoyogi neighbourhood in the central area of Tokyo.

More than 130,000 festivalgoers are expected to attend the open-air event, said Vietnam Ambassador to Japan Doan Xuan Hung in making the announcement.

Ambassador Hung said the festival will feature the vast diversity of the nation’s culture and most notably traditional water puppetry, which is a unique and very popular art genre in Japan.

It will also spotlight Vietnamese cuisine, Hung said noting that of the 80 booths planned for the event, 50 will be dedicated to Vietnamese food and beverage with the remainder to arts and handicrafts.

The event will also feature live music, cultural performances, and handicraft displays.

Senator Matsuda Iwao of Japan in turn noted the festival is being held on the occasion of celebrating the 70th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day.
