Tam Thanh mural village wins Asian Townscape Award 2017
The mural village of Tam Thanh in Tam Ky City, Quang Nam Province has won the Asian Townscape Award 2017.
According to the government of Tam Ky City, the award is held by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the Asian Habitat Society, the Asian Townscape Design Society and the Fukuoka Asian Urban Research Center with the aim of honoring cities, regions and projects that make significant contributions to creating beautiful landscapes and bringing a happy living environment to Asian residents.
The award ceremony will take place on September 28 in China.
The mural village was inaugurated on June 9 on the occasion of the 2017 Quang Nam Heritage Festival. Since its launch, it has attracted more than 40,000 visitors.
In June last year, the walls of the houses in this fishing village have been turned into colorful paintings thanks to a community art exchange project being carried out by the Republic of Korea and Vietnam.
Since then, the village has become a favorite venue for domestic and foreign tourists, thus benefiting villagers.
