Six golds for Vietnam at Taiwan Open Athletics

(VOV) - Vietnamese athletes have bagged six golds, three silvers and one bronze at the 2013 Taiwan Open Athletics Championships in Taipei, China.

The first gold medal went to Pham Thi Diem in the women’s high jump, clearing 1.91 meters.

Tran Hue Hoa won the women’s triple jump with a leap of 13.53 meters. Nguyen Thi Oanh came first in the women’s 400 meter race with a time of 54.96 seconds, while Duong Van Thai took the men’s 1,500 meter race in 3 minutes 53.83 seconds. 

Another gold medal was earned by Nguyen Thi Huyen in the women’s 400 meter hurdles with a time of 60.02 seconds.

Vu Thi Men, Nguyen Thi Oanh, Nguyen Thi Thuy and Nguyen Thi Huyen carried off a sixth gold medal in women’s 4x400 meter relay in 3 minutes 44.49 seconds. 

Three athletes also took home silver medals, including Nguyen Thi Thuy in the women’s 400 meter race (55.48 seconds), Pham Tien San in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase (9 minutes 19.64 seconds) and Duong Van Thai for the men’s 800m (1 minute 50.97 seconds).

Vu Thi Men obtained a bronze medal in the women’s triple jump with a length of 13.15 meters.

Overall, Vietnam finished third on the medal tally behind Malaysia and Taiwan (China).
