Seminar discusses ways to protect, commercialize music copyright in digital era
VOV.VN - The Vietnam Musicians’ Association, in collaboration with digital copyright platform DipNET, held a seminar titled "Protection and Commercialization of Music Copyright in the Digital Era" on October 29 in Hanoi with a major focus on protecting copyright to promote creativity and sustainable cultural developmen
At the seminar, Maj. Gen., Composer Duc Trinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Musicians’ Association, stressed that cross-border platforms host thousands of unauthorized re-uploads and unapproved remixes. He specifically warned that artificial intelligence (AI) tools automatically scraping and reproducing music data directly threaten artists' reputation, finances, and creative drive.
Pham Van Tai, representing the Intellectual Property and Creativity Magazine, noted that complete recordings are often illegally re-uploaded to platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook within 30 minutes of official release. These unauthorized channels generate thousands of US dollars in ad revenue from millions of views, while authors and producers receive no royalties.
At the event, delegates tested a tracking and identification system developed by DipNET. The platform builds a technological infrastructure to issue a "digital ID" for each song, transparently defining ownership layers, authors, and authorized distributors.
Bui Minh Tuan, Board Chairman of DipNET Technology Joint Stock Company, emphasized that copyright transactions must be transparent based on accurate reference data to curb online violations and build a professional centralized copyright market.
Strict copyright enforcement is considered a key foundation to help Vietnam's cultural industries contribute 7% to the national GDP by 2030.
