Saigon Classical to bring free Christmas concert to HCM City
Saigon Classical Music Group will hold a free Holy Night concert on December 17 to ring in the festive season via the joyful and warm melodies of popular Christmas carols and folk songs.
The concert from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. will feature Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite Op. 71a: Waltz of the flowers; Russian dance by the piano duo Tran Mai Hong and Thai Ngoc Thuy Trang and several songs, including Adolphe Adam’s O Holy Night by baritone Vu Minh Tri and pianist Doan Tran Thuy Tien; The First Noel (a traditional English carol with additional lyrics by David Gilbert) and William Chatterton Dix’s “What Child Is This?” by soprano Nguyen Thi Thanh Nguyen and pianist Thai Ngoc Thuy Trang.
Violin duo Pham Nguyen Hoai Thao and Truong Nhu Truc Anh and pianist Doan Tran Thuy Tien will perform Dmitri Shostakovich’s five pieces for two violins and piano: No. 1, No. 2 & No. 5 and Franz Wohlfahrt’s Easy Fantasia on 2 Christmas Songs, Op. 83.
Saigon Choir will take the stage on the second part of the show to perform Alice Parker’s “Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal” and Moses Hogan’s Elijah Rock and John Rutter’s Look at the world while mezzo soprano Huynh Ha Thu Thao and pianist Le Hoa Phong Lan will play George Frideric Handel’s Aria “If God is for us who can be against us” from “Messiah.”
George Frideric Handel’s Aria “Would you gain the tender creature” from opera “Acis and Galatea” and George Frideric Handel’s Aria “I know that my redeemer liveth” from “Messiah” will be staged respectively by tenor Le Viet Thu and countertenor Huynh Quang Thai accompanied by pianist Le Hoa Phong Lan. Pianist Nguyen Tuan Manh will wrap up the show by Franz Liszt’s La Campanella.
