Red Flamboyant Festival 2016 opens in Hai Phong
VOV.VN - On the evening of May 6, an arts program themed ‘Hai Phong City, Joining Hands with Friends’ to celebrate the 61st Anniversary of Haiphong Liberation Day and the Red Flamboyant Festival 2016 transpired at the Theatre Square.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc highlighted the heroic struggle of the people the city during the two wars for liberation as well as their achievements during the renovation period. |

“Haiphong City is to be commended for its remarkable effort to transform itself into a civilized and modern city,” said Prime Minister Phuc. “Most notable is its endeavour to build a state-of-the-art green-port.” |

The event kicked off with a drum performance, lion dances and a carnival parade of over 1,600 soldiers, public security officers, maritime policemen, workers, farmers, women and teenagers. |

On the occasion, a certificate was presented bestowing the national intangible cultural heritage status to Le Chan, a female commander during the Hai Ba Trung (Trung Sisters) uprising against the foreign invaders in around 40 A.D. |
