Quang Liem wins two chess championships in US
(VOV) - Vietnamese player Le Quang Liem has come first in rapid and blitz chess at Missouri State Chess Championship 2013.
The tournament consists of three categories: standard, rapid and blitz chess.
In rapid chess, Liem and his team mate Georg Meier of Webster University shared top prize. Third position went to Denes Boros, also from the same university.
Liem later shared the championship title in blitz chess with Georg Meier.
The Vietnamese player didn’t participate in standard chess in which his teammate Fidel Corrales was crowned champion.
Liem will compete at the 2013 Spice Cup in the US on October 15, seeing the participation of nine international super grandmasters and grandmasters.
With his highest Elo (2712), Liem is seeded No. 1 and regarded as the top candidate for the championship title at the tournament.
