Quang Liem secures first win at Spice Cup
(VOV) - Vietnamese chess player Le Quang Liem easily defeated 14-year-old American rival Akshat Chandra in the first match of the Spice Cup held in Missouri State, USA, on October 16.
The tournament was open to all contestants with an Elo of 2100 and above, and it was not difficult for Liem (Elo 2712) to outperform the American player (Elo 2318).
In another matches, Ray Robson (Elo 2628) drew with Eric Rodriguez (Elo 2307). GM Aleksandr Rakhmanov (Elo 2603) lost to Kostya Kavustkiy (Elo 2272) and GM Manuel Leon Hoyos (Elo 2552) was defeated by Daniel Gurevich (Elo 2258).
Liem will face 15-year-old Kayden Troff of the US (Elo 2431) in the second match.
In this tournament, Liem is considered the No. 1 candidate for winning the championship title.
The winner will receive a cash prize of US$4,000.
