Quán Kỳ Nam selected for Palm Springs International Film Festival 2026
VOV.VN - Quán Kỳ Nam (Ky Nam Inn) directed by Leon Quang Le will be screened at the Palm Springs International Film Festival 2026, set to take place in early January in the United States, while the film continues its theatrical run in Vietnam.
The Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) is one of the most established film festivals in the US and is often regarded as an important platform on the awards-season calendar.
Quán Kỳ Nam has been selected for the World Cinema Now section and will have three official screenings: 4:00 p.m. on January 2 at Festival Theaters 1, 9:30 a.m. on January 7 at Festival Theaters 3, and 7:30 p.m. on January 9 at Festival Theaters 1.
Director Leon Quang Le is scheduled to attend the screenings and take part in post-screening discussions with audiences.
The film marks the return of actress Do Thi Hai Yen to cinema and represents a new step in the career of Lien Binh Phat, who recently won Best Actor at Taiwan’s Golden Bell Awards. It is also the second feature collaboration between Lien Binh Phat and Leon Quang Le, following Song Lang (2018).
Quán Kỳ Nam follows Khang, a man working on a Vietnamese translation of The Little Prince, and his gradually developing bond with Ky Nam, a middle-aged woman who earns a living by cooking for residents of a collective housing complex in Saigon.
Set in Saigon in the 1980s, the film revisits everyday life in communal housing before the country’s economic reforms. Shot on 35 mm film, it evokes the atmosphere of the period through its restrained visual tone, with the old city serving as a quiet backdrop to the growing connection between the two central characters.
