Photographers win prizes at int'l contest

(VOV) - Four Vietnamese photographers have been honoured at the 2012 CGAP International Photography Contest, judges announced in Washington DC recently.   

Photographer Dinh Manh Tai was included in the “Special Mention” award winners for his photo titled “Shine”.

The three works “Against the Wind” by photographer Vo Anh Kiet, and “To Catch Fish” and “Anchovy Season” by Ngo Quang Phuc all number among the competition’s finalists.

Photographers from 80 countries across the globe had sent a record high of 2,500 entries to the organizing board, of which 16 percent from East Asia and 10 percent from China.

The panel of judges had selected 29 works as finalists which were highlighted for their technical skill, emotional impact or ability to convey the story of financial inclusion.

The overall winner of the 2012 CGAP Photo Contest was Turkish photographer Yavuz Sariyildiz. His photo “Smoke of Charcoal” depicts men separating charcoal for sale at a local market.

The panel of judges consisted of Anne Farrar, Photo Editor at The Washington Post, Chris Combs, Photo Editor at National Geographic, Suzanne Lemakis, Director of Fine Art at Citigroup, and Susan Sterner, Director of New Media Photojournalism at the Corcoran School of Art and Design.
