Pencak silat artists claim honours at regional Games
(VOV) - Vietnamese pencak silat martial artists added their names to the list of winners at the ASEAN Schools Games (ASG) in Hanoi on June 26.
As one of the world’s strongest pencak silat nations, Vietnam dominated three out of six events in the morning.
Trio Vu Tien Dung, Nguyen Xuan Thanh and Nguyen Quoc Viet won in the boys’ team category, leaving behind teams from Indonesia and Brunei.
Their teammates Nguyen Thi Huyen, Duong Thi Anh Nguyet and Pham Thi Phuong also topped the podium minutes later after winning the girls’ category.
Their runners-up were also from Indonesia and Brunei.
It was the second gold medal for Huyen and Nguyet, who had earlier won the girls’ double pool.
Two other golds went to Indonesia, the motherland of pencak silat, and one was won by Malaysia.
In swimming, Nguyen Thi Anh Vien maintained her winning streak, bagging two more golds in the girls’ 400m and 800m freestyle.
The Can Tho City-born swimmer has now taken eight of Vietnam’s nine swimming golds.
Vietnam topped the scoreboard on June 26 with a total of 27 golds, while Malaysia remained in second place with 15 golds and Thailand came in third with 12 golds.
