Officials congratulate Khmer people on Sene Dolta festival

(VOV) - A delegation of the Steering Committee for Southwest region on October 9 visited and congratulated Khmer people in the Mekong delta city of Can Tho on the occasion of Sene Dolta Festival 2012.

The delegation, led by the committee’s Deputy Head Bui Ngoc Suong visited the provincial Patriotic United Buddhist Association and presented gifts to monks and nuns of the Khmer Nam Tong (Theravada) Buddhist Institute, Rangsay Muni and Som Rong pagodas as well as a number of poor households in the city.

Speaking highly of the efforts made by Khmer people and monks in building the country, Suong called on them to continue upholding their patriotism and solidarity, making greater contributions to national development.

Expressing thanks to the State and Party for assistance, representatives from the association, institute and pagodas said that they will encourage local people and followers to actively make contribution to the nation’s prosperity while practicing their faith.

Sene Dolta is one of the largest Khmer festivals paying tribute to ancestors and those who contributed to the homeland.

It is held from the 30th day of the 8th lunar month to the second day of the 9th lunar month each year, which falls on Oct.14-16 this year. The majority of the Khmer population in Vietnam live in the southwestern region, which has 453 Khmer pagodas.
