New water puppetry theater opened in town

Rex Sen Vang Theater will debut its first water puppetry and cultural performance program at the Vertical Garden of the five-star Rex Hotel Saigon in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City at 8 p.m. on September 17.

The show will start with a performance featuring the art of classical theater or hat boi which was born in Vietnam 700 years ago, an imperial Hue-style dance which was known in the country 500 years ago, a performance of chau van – hau dong (a traditional singing style of northern Vietnamese with a 400-year history and a solo performance of stone musical instruments of the Central Highlands dating back to 2,000 years.

A show of traditional water puppetry which is over 1,000 years old will mark the end of the show.

The Rex Sen Vang Water Puppetry Theater is a joint effort of the Rex Hotel Saigon and Thai Duong Company, with the latter also managing the popular Rong Vang Puppetry Theater at the Labor Cultural Palace in District 1, HCMC.
