National costume museum launches in Hanoi

VOV.VN - The second national costume museum in Vietnam has opened at 18 Au Co Street in the Tay Ho district of Hanoi.

The museum illustrates the evolution of ao dai, the country’s national costume, with typical designs dating as far back as the 17th and 18th centuries.

It is the second such museum following one opened in 2014 in Ho Chi Minh City inspired by designer Le Sy Hoang who wanted to share the history of traditional fashion with current and future generations.

Designer Hoang hoped to increase the cultural awareness of the national costume to residents and visitors alike, highlighting its importance in history and impact on modern day life.

At the museum, visitors have an opportunity to make their own ao dai on paper, while souvenir dolls are also available for tourists. Admission to the museum is free. It will open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
