Mid-Autumn Festival seen as cultural bridge for Vietnamese community in Berlin
VOV.VN - Vietnamese associations, clubs, and businesses in Berlin have jointly organized the 2026 Mid-Autumn Festival at the Dong Xuan Center, drawing numerous Vietnamese children, families, and German guests.
The annual event, maintained for years, provides a playground for youth while preserving Vietnamese culture and strengthening community cohesion in Berlin and across Germany.
The celebration featured traditional activities, including lion dances, lantern processions, festive feasts, and cultural performances.
Addressing the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Nguyen Dac Thanh wished children a joyful and safe Mid-Autumn Festival, emphasizing the importance of preserving traditional customs for young generations born and raised in Germany.
Ambassador Thanh noted that the Full Moon Festival evokes familiar childhood images such as star lanterns, lion dance drums, feast trays, and folklore figures for Vietnamese at home and abroad. For youth in Germany, the festival offers direct contact with the Vietnamese language and culture, helping them connect with their heritage through experiential activities.
The ambassador praised organizations and families for supporting youth in maintaining Vietnamese identity while integrating into Germany. He also conveyed the Mid-Autumn message from General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam, encouraging children to study diligently, cultivate compassion, and cherish their homeland.
He expressed hope that the youth will become cultural bridges between Vietnam and Germany, staying dynamic and proud of their roots.
Nguyen Dong Mac, representative of the Dong Xuan Center leadership and head of the organizing committee, noted that the joint festival has become an annual tradition aimed at handing down cultural heritage to younger generations. Aside from a children's celebration, the event brings families together, fosters community bonds, and allows older generations to pass down cultural values.
Maintaining these traditions helps youth understand their origins, brings Vietnamese culture closer to German society, and turns a children's festival into a vibrant community event centered on the younger generation.
According to Ambassador Nguyen Dac Thanh, nurturing the youth means investing in the future of families, the community, and the country.
