Local fencers top Southeast Asian region
(VOV) - Vietnam has bagged five gold medals after three days of competition of the ongoing Southeast Asian Fencing Championships, topping the medal tally.
Host players won four gold medals in the first four competition events on November 12-13.
Together with another gold medal Nguyen Thi Le Dung took in the women’s individual sabre on November 14, Vietnam got five gold medals as they did at the 2011 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Indonesia.
The results came as no surprise, because the host has sent the best players who have glorified Vietnam at regional and international tournaments, such as Nguyen Le Dung, Vu Thanh An, Nguyen Thi Tuoi and especially Nguyen Tien Nhat who earned a ticket to the 2012 London Olympic.
Fencers are competing for the last six sets of medals, including men’s team epee and sabre and women’s team foil on November 15.
