Lim festival opens

Thousands of Vietnamese and foreign visitors gathered at the traditional Lim cultural festival taking place in Tien Du district, northern Bac Ninh province on February 13-14.

Nguyen Huu Manh, deputy chairman of the Tien Du District’s People’s Committee, who is also head of the organizing board of the festival said that the event highlighted Quan Ho folk songs and other new cultural characteristics of Bac Ninh province with the aim of encouraging people to get involved in patriotic emulation movements.

Manh added that after being recognized by UNESCO as the world’s intangible cultural heritage, the Lim festival attracts several thousands of Vietnamese local and international visitors a year.

** Also on February 13, Quan Ho Folk song art programme was held in Bac Ninh province with the participation of Politburo member To Huy Rua, head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Organisation, leaders of related agencies and localities, and thousands of visitors from across the country.

Quan Ho songs have long been a cultural value expressing the spirit, philosophy and local identity of the communities in this region and have been preserved and developed through the nation’s history.

The event was organized to celebrate the success of the National Party Congress, welcome the New Year, and introduce the images of the province to people nationwide and international friends.

Do Thi Hien, a resident in Bac Ninh, said she was very proud of being a citizen such a culturally rich region and expressed her hopes that the festival will be held every year.

All the melodies performed in the programme helped raise public awareness of preserving Quan Ho Folk songs.

The event is part of the Bac Ninh province’s commitment to preserve the UNESCO-recognised intangible heritage.
