Liem wins twice at 2013 Aeroflot Open
(VOV) - Top Vietnamese chess player Le Quang Liem has won two matches at the 2013 Aeroflot Open chess tournament currently underway in Russia.
He easily defeated Russian rival Rakhim Pasiev in his first match, needing only 27 moves.
The international grandmaster won his second victory over Sergey Domogaev, also from Russia, after 29 moves.
The tournament runs from February 12–17.
Liem is competing against eight other players invited for the qualifying round to earn a berth in the finals.
This year’s tournament features both rapid and blitz chess competitions. The rapid chess champion will pocket US$72,000 while US$10,000 will go to the overall winner of the blitz division.
