Liem stumbles at UK Chess tourney
(VOV) - Vietnamese chess player Le Quang Liem has lost to UK champion Nigel Short in a January 30 match at the Festival Tradewise Gibraltar 2013 in the UK.
Liem was on the attack early on in the game, however the British rival quickly overturned the situation after some careful defense.
The Vietnamese player admitted his first failure in the tournament after the 67th move.
With a total of six points after eight matches, he has now dropped to 6th in the rankings, while Nigel Short steps up to 2nd place with 7 points.
Liem will face Spanish competitor Vazquez Igarza Renier in his next match.
