Leading filmmakers converge on Da Nang for Asian Film Festival 2024

VOV.VN - The second Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF II) with the theme of “Bridging Asia” opened on July 2 evening in the central coastal city of Da Nang with the participation of leading filmmakers and art lovers throughout Asia.

As many as 63 Vietnamese and international films have been selected to take part in the festival that is scheduled to run until July 6. Entries will compete in the Asian films category to be decided by an Asian judging panel, as well as the Vietnamese films category to be judged by local experts.

Along with the world-renowned filmmakers previously announced, such as Chinese-French author and filmmaker Dai Sijie and Hong Kong (China) director Stanley Kwan, the festival welcomed two filmmakers from the Busan International Film Festival, including its former chairman Kim Dong-ho and current chairman Park Kwang-su.

At the opening ceremony, the DANAFF’s organisers for the first time announced the film achievement award for the best filmmaker, with Vietnamese director Dang Nhat Minh being bestowed the award for his tireless contributions to Vietnamese cinema.

The festival will have free screenings at five large theatres and two outdoor venues. In addition, local audiences can engage in conversations and exchanges with artists and film crews, offering a unique and engaging cinematic experience to audiences.

Furthermore, a number of workshops will be held during the event to help participants share their experience and select talented young filmmakers for training under the guidance of international and Vietnamese film experts.

This annual festival is held to honour outstanding films from Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific region as a whole. It provides a forum for domestic and foreign professional cinematographers to exchange ideas, seek co-operation opportunities, and expand the film market.
