Lao New Year festival Bunpimay opens in Da Nang
VOV.VN - A wide range of cultural activities took place on April 7 in the central coastal city of Da Nang to mark the traditional New Year festival Bunpimay of Laos.
Typical New Year customs were re-enacted, including bathing the Buddha statue, tying a thread on the wrist, and water splashing.
The programme also featured several traditional songs and dances from Laos, along with other cultural exchanges to introduce the traditional culture and cuisine of both countries.
Addressing the event, Ho Ky Minh, standing vice chairman of the local administration recalled over the years Da Nang has signed 35 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with seven localities of Laos, and both sides have also deployed a number of cooperation projects effectively.
Since 2002 the local administration has provided scholarships to more than 850 students from Laos’ Savannakhet, Champasak, Salavane and Se-kong, to follow undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Da Nang.
The city plans to maintain exchanges of high-level delegations in the 2023 to 2027 period; share development experiences, and boost cooperation in the fields of investment, trade, tourism, and logistics with Laos’ southcentral provinces.
