VOV.VN - Japanese painter Toba Mika has reflected Vietnam’s beautiful landscapes through a series of Japan’s traditional katazome paintings.

Toba Mika graduated from Kyoto University of Art and Design and has won 19 prestigious arts awards in Japan. In 1994, she came to Vietnam for the first time and has developed an affinity for the land.

She has created large-scale paintings, featuring Vietnam’s landscapes and cultural heritage sites. A selection of her works has recently been on display at an exhibition at the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture.

The event will run through November 12 as part of activities being held to welcome the APEC Summit 2017 in central city of Danang.

Katazome, or stencil dyeing, is a Japanese paste-resist surface design technique for cloth and paper.  Painters have to obey 18 stages to create a successful Katazome painting.
