Japanese guitarist to wow Hanoian audiences

Japanese classical guitarist Muraji Kaori will join Vietnamese musicians to perform in a New Year gala concert in Hanoi this week.

Under the baton of the Japanese conductor Honna Tetsuji, Kaori and National Symphony Orchestra will perform a concerto for guitar and orchestra by the Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo.

A Tokyo native, the 35-year-old guitarist won her first international guitar competition when she was 11 years old.

In 1992, she became the youngest musician ever to win the prestigious Leo Brouwer award.

She is also the first-ever Japanese artist to sign an exclusive international contract with the classical recording label Decca Music Group, a division of the US-based Universal Music Group.

During the concert, the musicians will also perform the overture La Gazza Ladra by Italian Gioachino Rossini, L’arlesienne Suite No 2 by the French Georges Bizet and Bolero by Maurice Ravel.

The concert will start at the Hanoi Opera House on 1 Trang Tien Street at 8pm on February 21-22.
