Japanese culinary festival kicks off in HCM City

A Japanese culinary festival is taking place at the Windsor Plaza Hotel in District 5, Ho Chi Minh City, creating an opportunity for food connoisseurs to gain hands-on experience in the Japanese culinary art and cultural traits.

Japanese food lovers will get lost in the world of sushi, sashimi, tempura, chawanmushi, and cupcakes with abundant tastes and colors, prepared by two Japanese guest chefs de cuisine - Yosuke Suzuki and Takeshi Yamada, the latter having served as head chef at the Japanese embassies in France and the Czech Republic.

The festival is highlighted by a traditional rice cake Mochi pounding ceremony, one of the long-established rituals made by the Japanese on the first day of the New Year to pray for luck, good health and prosperity.

Furthermore, gastronomers have a chance to watch Japanese-style dance shows every night and buy traditional Japanese handicrafts, fashion items and dried food during the festival.

A lucky draw will be organized on the final night, with a grand prize of two return flights to one of four major Japanese cities – Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya or Fukuoka, sponsored by JTB, a leading Japanese travel firm.
