Italy’s free concert slated for October 19

A concert to honor Italian music will take place at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music in District 1 at 8 pm on October 19.

The event, organized by the consulate general of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City and the HCM City Conservatory of Music, marks the 15th edition of the Week of Italian Language in the World.

Spectators can enjoy some masterpieces, including “Hot Sonate” per Sax Alto e Pianoforte by E. Schulhoff and Tarantella da “Venezia e Napoli” by F. Liszt, which will be performed by two invited artists from Italy - pianist Anna Lisa Giordano and saxophonist Alfredo Cerrito.

Artists from the HCM City Conservatory of Music, including vocal lecturers Anh Bang, Khanh Trang, Ngoc Tuyen and Khanh Ngoc, and student of vocal faculty Thu Thao, will contribute their voices via some popular pieces of Nessun Dorma (opera Turandot) by Puccini, Mattinata by Leoncavallo, Maria Mari by E.Capua and La Promessa by Rossini, among others.

Saxophonist Alfredo Cerrito and pianist Anna Lisa Giordano founded the “Duo 8&15” in 2009. In October 2013, they inaugurated the re-opening of Baghdad National Theatre (Iraq) at a concert organized by the Iraqi Minister of Culture in cooperation with the Italian Embassy, Finland, Germany, Greece, Slovenia, Portugal, Malta and Austria.

Alfredo Cerrito began studying saxophone at the age of 10. In 2007 he joined the prestigious Wind Orchestra of the Italian Army and performed in many theaters all over the world until September 2009.

He won many national and international competitions, including jazz music. Recently with “Duo 8 e 15″, he won the first International Chamber Music Competition in Bellagio (Italy), the International Competition “C.Togni” in Brescia, the International Competition “Città di Rocchetta”, the International Competition “Alice bel Colle”, the XIX Competition “Rospigliosi Prize”, the XXII Competition organized by Humane Society in Milan – a prestigious competition with more than 100 competitors in Italy.

He is also a founding member of Musica Sine Castribus association and teaches at many Music Schools. He is currently taking composition and conducting courses in Italy.

Anna Lisa Giordano, born 1985 graduated with a Diploma in Piano at the Conservatory of Music San Pietro a Majella (Napoli). In 2014, she received the “Master of Arts in Music Performance” at the Conservatory of Italian Switzerland in Lugano.

Anna Lisa has performed not only as a soloist but also in chamber ensembles throughout the world such as the Festival “Le dieci giornate” of Brescia, the “Music Monday” of Mantua, the Festival “C. Rollero Pizzo”, and many cities in Switzerland, Slovenia, Germany, and Iraq. She is currently a lecturer of piano and chamber music at the “A.M.Ba.L.” - Academy in Formia (Italy).

Free tickets to the show are delivered at the HCM City Conservatory of Music at 112 Nguyen Du Street in HCM City’s District 1.
