Int’l Three-Cushion Billiards Tournament opens

(VOV) - The 2013 International Three-Cushion Carom Billiards Tournament began in the southern province of Binh Duong on August 15.

Organised by Binh Duong Television (BTV) and the provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, BTV-Becamex IJC Cup—contested by 52 billiards players—helps domestic participants prepare ahead of the 27th SEA Games in Myanmar later this year.

Forty Vietnamese billiards players from 15 cities and provinces nationwide entered qualifying.

Eight Vietnamese players with previous national championship success, and four Japanese, Filipino, and Indonesian competitors, were automatically advanced into the next round of the cup.

Ho Chi Minh City is a recognised power, comprising such billiards stars as Tran Dinh Nai (national championship winner in 2013), Truong Quang Hao (national championship winner in 2012), and the internationally proven: Nguyen Quoc Nguyen, Ma Xuan Cuong, and Duong Anh Vu.

Binh Duong has high hopes for Nguyen Thanh Binh, a gold medal winner at the 2006 National Sports Festival (defeating Duong Anh Vu).

This year’s cup will last through to August 17.
