Int’l readers interested in Vietnamese books
A delegation of the Vietnam National Corporation for the Export and Import of Books, Periodicals and Other Cultural Commodities (Xunhasaba) attended the International Book Fair in Moscow from September 5-10.
The event involved more than 1,000 publishing houses, libraries and education and training institutes from 45 countries around the world.
Xunhasaba’s representative Nguyen Van Loc said the Corporation expected to introduce Vietnamese literature to Russian and other foreign readers on this occasion.
Demand for Vietnamese books is huge in Russia, especially in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Vladivostok, which have large numbers of people studying Vietnamese, he said.
Not only Vietnamese people but many Russian experts were interested in Xunhasaba’s stand.
Those who helped Vietnam in its resistance war against the US came to buy books about the late President Ho Chi Minh and legendary Gen. Vo Nguyen Giap.
Russian historian Dr. Aleksei Ryabinin said they also wanted to learn more about contemporary authors.
The problem is that Russian readers have no access to the Russian versions of Vietnam’s latest literary works due to the limited budget for translation and publication.
