“India Corner” launched to promote Vietnam-India academic exchange
VOV.VN - An “India Corner” was inaugurated in Hanoi on April 8 by the Institute for South Asian, West Asian and African Studies under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, in coordination with the Embassy of India in Vietnam, to promote knowledge sharing, academic exchange and deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
Professor, Dr. Le Van Loi, President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, said the establishment of the “India Corner” carries symbolic significance within activities marking the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, while also reflecting the Academy’s orientation to expand international academic cooperation, particularly with strategic partners.
According to him, the “India Corner” is designed in line with the research orientation of the Institute of South Asian, West Asian and African Studies, which has extensive experience in South Asian studies, including India.
The space is expected to support research and teaching, connect scholars, lecturers and students, and facilitate academic activities such as seminars and thematic discussions. In addition to books and research materials, it also features artefacts, images and traditional handicrafts from India, providing a more tangible understanding of the country and its culture.
Le Van Loi said the initiative is the result of close coordination between the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences and the Embassy of India in Vietnam through scholar exchanges, international conferences and cultural activities. The Academy will continue to support the effective use of the space, thus contributing to improved research quality and international integration.
Tshering W. Sherpa, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam, said the “India Corner” was established to create a space closely linked with research institutions specializing in South Asian studies. He said the space is not only for display but also serves academic purposes. It is seen as a starting point to develop the “India Corner” into a place for knowledge, research materials and academic and cultural exchange.
The Embassy of India will continue to provide publications and support the needs of Vietnamese research institutions.
On bilateral ties, the ambassador said 2026 marks the 10th anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. While relations have achieved positive results, there remains vast potential for cooperation, particularly in research and academic exchange. He said he hopes to further strengthen cooperation with the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences through joint research programmes, conferences and scholar exchanges.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Trung, Director of the Institute of South Asian, West Asian and African Studies, said the launch of the “India Corner” is the establishment of a display space and a vivid symbol of the traditional friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and India.
Amid global changes, enhancing links in knowledge, culture and people-to-people exchange is particularly important. He added that shortly after the initiative was announced, educational institutions had expressed interest in bringing students to visit and conduct research, indicating its practical value.
