IDECAF Troupe to make US debut

A play depicting family problems, written by Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc, one of Vietnam’s leading female scriptwriters, will be presented in California next weekend.

The comedy Tia Oi Ma Dia (Daddy! Mom Comes Back) will be staged by 20 actors of the HCM City-based private IDECAF Troupe in a Saigon style that Vietnamese-American fans find attractive.

It is directed by Vu Minh, a well-known young theatre director who works for several troupes and theatres in the city.

Minh said he and his staff had worked hard to incorporate simple and humorous language to meet the tastes of their audiences in California.

The play will feature famous actors Thanh Loc, Huu Chau and Phuong Dung.

Young and promising talents, such as Truong Nam Thanh and Don Nguyen, will also be featured.

"Each of our talented actors is a star in the making. They bring an energy and passion to their performances. I hope their show will bring a new taste to Vietnamese audiences, particularly young people, in the US,” said the play’s director Minh, who arrived in California early this week to prepare for staging.

According to Minh, Tia Oi Ma Dia involves the loss of traditional values related to family and love in modern society as Vietnam integrates into the world. “The play’s theme is intensely human and relevant for any time and culture,” he said.

The play will be staged twice on November 27, at the Saigon Performing Arts Centre in Orange Country.

The show is part of the IDECAF’s first official tour to the US.
