Huong crowned Asian Xiangqi Champion

(VOV) - Vietnamese player Ngo Lan Huong ranked first at the Asian Xiangqi (Chinese chess) Championships held in Sydney, Australia from September 22-27.

She defeated Chen Xinglin (China) in the first match, then Zhan Hui Mei (Brunei), Wang Juan Ying (Australia), Chen Ming Fang (Singapore), and Lin Jia Pei (Malaysia), in the following events.

After five wins, Huong got 10 points, two points higher than her runner-up Chen Xinglin (China) with a cash prize of US$5,000. She was known as the defending champion of 2011.

Among the men competing in five matches, Vo Minh Nhat was disqualified from the semi-final.

The 2013 tournament attracts 24 male and 7 female players from 15 countries over the world. The Vietnamese team had three athletes-Vo Minh Nhat and Lai Ly Huynh in the men’s group and Ngo Lan Huong in the women’s group.
