Hue craft festival honours Vietnamese culture
(VOV) - The sixth Hue Traditional Craft Festival, aiming to develop craft villages and expand tourism is set for April 29-May 3, 2015.
The traditional crafts of Thua Thien-Hue province, such as palm-leaf conical hats, paper flowers, lanterns, silver and gold jewelry, and embroidery will be introduced to visitors, along with a space to display local traditional dishes.
Artisans from craft villages in Thua Thien-Hue, as well as those from neighbouring areas such as Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Ha Giang, Quang Nam, Ninh Thuan, Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong, will also take part in the biennial event.
Within the festival, foreign visitors will have chances to participate in tours to local craft villages.
Various activities will be held, including fashion shows on brocade products, exhibitions on traditional crafts, competition on some traditional crafts in schools, meetings and ceremonies to honour artisans, seminars and street festivals.
In particular, Gyeongju city (from the Republic of Korea), Saijo and Shizuoka (from Japan) will cooperate with Hue city to organize a photograph exhibition on cultures of ASEAN member states.
At the press conference on the Hue Traditional Craft Village 2015 held on December 26, Chairman of Hue municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Thanh said that the festival aims to honour local traditional crafts and introduce Vietnamese culture to domestic and foreign tourists, helping to develop the city’s tourism and services.
