Hoi An welcomes 1,200 global artists for international choir competition
VOV.VN - The eighth Vietnam International Choir Competition officially opened in Hoi An on April 9, bringing together more than 1,200 domestic and foreign artists from 29 art troupes worldwide.
In his opening remarks, Nguyen Van Lanh, Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee, said the competition offers an opportunity for Hoi An to promote its landscapes and cultural heritage to international friends.
Johan Rooze, Artistic Director of the organiser Interkultur, highlighted Hoi An as an ideal meeting point where artists from around the world can come together to sing, dance, and share their unique cultural experiences.
Right after the opening ceremony, international artists performed alongside local troupes, with choral shows designed to introduce diverse cultures to audiences in Hoi An.
Throughout the competition, a variety of activities will take place, including art performances along the Hoai River, a re-enactment of early 20th-century Hoi An, and street choir performances as well as guided tours of the city’s scenic spots.
Running until April 13, the event features 11 activities, with seven competition categories held at the city’s theatre. Gold medals and certificates will be awarded to winners in each category.
First held in 2011, the international choir competition has since become a biennial event in Hoi An, leaving a lasting impression on both residents and visitors.
