Hoi An set to host int’l food festival next week
A dozen local and international chefs will join an international food festival from March 11 to 17 in Hoi An City in the central province of Quang Nam, according to a source from the city government.
At the third “Taste of the World” event, chefs from Germany, France, Sweden, Greece, India and Italy will demonstrate their cooking skills and make traditional Vietnamese dishes with the assistance of Vietnamese food experts.
Street art performances by foreign music bands and a food carnival will also take place at the festival which is aimed at promoting the ancient town of Hoi An to international visitors and creating an opportunity for local and foreign chefs to meet.
Last year Hoi An was hailed as the capital of Vietnamese cuisine by the World Association of Chefs’ Societies. It also came in sixth among the top 10 Asian gastronomic destinations, voted by readers of TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site providing hotel and restaurant reviews and accommodation bookings. Lonely Planet put “Learning how to cook in Hoi An” service among the ten best travel experiences across the globe.
Nguyen Van Son, vice chairman of Hoi An City, was quoted by local media as saying that the city attracted more than 3.2 million tourists in 2017, a 21% year-on-year rise. This year, the city is looking to around 3.78 million visitors.
