The striking travel portrait titled “Mắt cá” (Fish Eyes), captured by British photographer Sophia Spurgin, surpassed nearly 14,500 entries to secure the top award at the 2026 Photographer of the Year competition organised by London Camera Exchange (LCE).

The image was taken spontaneously on a boat in Hoi An, capturing a playful and humorous moment at the end of a photography session. Reflecting on the shot, Spurgin said “I was keen to dedicate some time to serious travel photography during a family holiday and had been taking photos of this fisherman at work alongside a local photographer. This was the playful end of the photography session and a genuinely entertaining moment.”

In addition to winning the overall prize of GBP3,000, Spurgin was also named winner of the Travel category. She received a further GBP500 award for a wildlife photograph featuring foxes fighting in the rain.

The London Camera Exchange Photographer of the Year 2026 is a free-to-enter annual competition open to photographers of all levels. Featuring 14 categories, the contest offers a total prize fund of GBP10,000, along with special awards such as the “People’s Choice” and “Emerging Talent” categories. Winners were announced in March 2026.
