Ho Chi Minh City to host first ever river festival

VOV.VN - A river festival, the first of its kind in Ho Chi Minh City, is scheduled to take place from August 4 to August 6, featuring various special culture, entertainment, and art activities with the goal of promoting local tourism.

City dwellers and tourists will have the chance to take part in the festival across different locations, including the Saigon Cruise Port, the Bach Dang Wharf Park, the Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe Canal area, the Binh Dong Wharf, and the Suoi Tien Cultural Tourist Area.

During a press conference on the festival held on July 12 in Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, director of the city Department of Tourism, said a wide range of activities will be held along the Saigon River in a bid to attract tourists through art performances and promotional programmes. This will be part of efforts to stimulate consumption demand during the peak summer season.

An art programme at the Saigon Cruise Port on the evening of August 6 drawing the participation of 700 artists will serve as the highlight of the festival.

Furthermore, travel firms will introduce their products and services to domestic and foreign tourists through tourism fairs across the Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe Canal area, as well as the Binh Dong Wharf.

The Bach Dang Wharf Park will serve as a venue for boat racing competition, along with being a space of culture and art activities and folk games.

A street parade and art performances to introduce an array of intangible cultural heritages of Vietnam recognised by UNESCO and lighting decoration along the wharfs will also take place.
