Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival honours timeless elegance in modern life
VOV.VN - The 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Cultural Festival officially opened on June 21 at Book Street in the city center, offering an immersive experience that highlights the enduring charm of Vietnam’s traditional dress in contemporary settings.

Jointly organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Association and the city’s Photography Association, the event commemorates both the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day and Vietnamese Family Day on June 28.
A key feature of the festival is a photo exhibition displaying 100 works by 20 photographers, capturing the beauty and symbolism of the Ao Dai across generations.
Alongside the exhibition, a series of talks will explore photography techniques featuring the Ao Dai and the development of city tours centered on Ao Dai culture. The festival will culminate in an Ao Dai fashion show at the Youth Cultural House at 6:00 p.m. on June 28, with additional activities running through October 20.
Anna Hanh Le, Acting President of the Ao Dai Association, emphasized that the festival honors the Ao Dai not only as a national cultural icon but also as a representation of sustainable fashion, with many designs incorporating eco-friendly materials.
She noted that this year’s theme conveys a message of solidarity, gratitude, and recognition for those preserving Ao Dai heritage, from designers and artisans to the tailors behind every garment.
According to Le, the Ao Dai is more than a traditional outfit; it reflects Vietnam’s cultural identity through both wartime and peace, and continues to gain recognition at home and abroad. Despite rapid social changes, the Ao Dai remains deeply rooted in family life and everyday culture.
The festival also includes a charity sale aimed at supporting local artisans, tailors, and embroiderers-those who keep this timeless tradition alive through quiet dedication and craft.
