HCMC ranks first at national sports festival for disabled athletes

(VOV) - Ho Chi Minh City won the first place with 307 golds, 200 silvers and 110 bronzes in the national sports tournament for disabled people closed in Hanoi on July 28.
Meanwhile, Hanoi was placed second with 173 gold, 74 silver and 41 bronze medals, and Quang Tri third with 19 gold, 27 silver ad 19 bronze medals.
Phu Yen was at the bottom with only one bronze medal.
In the 50m breaststroke, Do Thanh Hai and Bui Van Den broke the Asian record.
In the weightlifting event, 13 disabled athletes set new records, including Dinh Thi Nga (77kg from Hanoi), Nguyen Thi Hong (90kg from Ho Chi Minh City) and Chau Hoang Tuyet Lan (101kg from Khanh Hoa).
Vu The Phiet, general secretary of the Vietnam Paralympics Association, said the association will select the best 150 athletes to compete in the ASEAN Paragames 2014 to be held in Myanmar in January next year.
