HCM City plans weekly Saturday fireworks displays to mark V-Day
VOV.VN - The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports has proposed setting off fireworks every Saturday evening, starting from April 19 to May 31 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification which falls on April 30.
The proposed fireworks display location will be at the Thu Thiem Tunnel entrance in Thu Duc City.
The southern metropolis earlier announced plans to host firework displays at seven locations on April 30 to mark half a century since the reunification of Vietnam in 1975.
The designated locations include Saigon River Tunnel in Thu Duc City, Ben Duoc Martyrs Memorial Temple in Cu Chi district, the Nga Ba Giong Historical Site in Hoc Mon district, the Lang Le-Bau Co Relic Site in Binh Chanh district, a football field in Can Gio district, the National History - Culture Park in Thu Duc City, and Dam Sen Cultural Park in District 11.
Along with the fireworks displays, from March 20 to May 31, Ho Chi Minh City is hosting a series of cultural and sports events to commemorate this milestone, as well as the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890 - 2025).
On Saturday nights (April 19, April 26, May 3, May 10, and May 17), artistic performances such as music concerts, street performances, river parades, floral boat displays on the Saigon River, paragliding, and flyboard shows will take place at Nguyen Hue Walking Street, Bach Dang Wharf, the Saigon River, and the Thu Duc Riverside Park.
On April 29 and 30, additional special performances including circus acts, magic shows, traditional Vietnamese opera, martial arts demonstrations, and brass band performances will be held at Nguyen Hue Walking Street and Bach Dang Wharf.
A record-breaking drone show featuring 10,500 drones will take place on April 30, depicting Ho Chi Minh City’s 50-year journey.
Saigon, now Ho Chi Minh City, was liberated on April 30, 1975, marking the end of the 30-year protracted war against American imperialism and culminating in the reunification of Vietnam.
