HCM City hosts Japanese cultural festival
(VOV) -A special event celebrating traditional Japanese cuisine, arts, and culture took place in Ho Chi Minh City on June 20.
Attendees sampled famous Japanese dishes including soba (buckwheat noodles), tempura (battered and deep fried seafood or vegetables), sushi, and a variety of candies and cakes.
They enjoyed unicorn dances performed by artisans and accompanied by musicians playing shamisen (a plucked stringed instrument), shakutachi (end-blown flute), and taiko (drum).
There was also a tezuma magic show and singer Godal Natsuko’s traditional Enka music and dance.
Ho Chi Minh City’s Japanese Consul General Hida Harumitsu noted the impressive development in Vietnam-Japan ties over the past 40 years.
He said the strategic partnership between the two countries, especially in politics, security, national defence, economics and culture, as well as in the private sector has developed vigorously.
La Quoc Khanh, Deputy Head of the Municipal Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, hailed Japan’s organisation of the event and its goal of introducing the country’s land and people abroad.
He said he hopes the celebration will help strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between Vietnam and Japan.
