Hanoi Brass Band to perform J-Music

Exchange in Vietnam will host its sixth garage concert named “J-Music for Brass Band” featuring Hanoi Brass Band’s performances in Hanoi on June 13, the foundation announced in a statement.

In this garage concert, Hanoi Brass Band will use brass instruments to play some popular songs of the world, and as one of the highlights of the concert, they will play Japanese various popular songs in their original style and arrangement, such as “Aikagi” (Spare Key) by Mayumi Itsuwa, “Recover Decoration” by Kosaki Onodera from the TV animation program, “Sakura Sake” (Cherry Blossoms Blooming) by Tanimoto Shin.

Hanoi Brass Band was formed in 1998 when the original members were students of the Hanoi Conservatory of Music (Vietnam National Academy of Music as present). In 2008, the band was officially named as Hanoi Brass Band with some changes of the members.

The band now consists of six professional musicians from Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, Military University of Culture and Arts, Brass Ensemble of Department of Public Security, with Kim Xuan Hieu (horn) as the band leader, Tran Hien (trombone), Le Minh Chieu (tuba), Nguyen Thanh Hai (trumpet), Pham Van Hieu (trumpet) and Nghiem Manh Tuan (drums).

All members are highly capable of conveying nuances of diverse music and Pham Van Hieu in particular, supported by the Japan Foundation, took a training course at NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo in 2012, and has developed his expressiveness further.

The free concert will start at 8 pm on June 13 in the courtyard of the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam at 27 Quang Trung Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi).

There are 200 seats offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
