Grand opera gala ready to roll

Leading opera artists of the HCMC Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will perform at an opera gala under the baton of local maestro Tran Vuong Thach at 8 p.m. on July 29.

They will stage extracts from the popular operas, chosen and arranged by veteran Korean soprano Cho Hae Ryong, who has played leading roles in many operas around the globe.

Soprano Nguyen Thi Thanh Nga will open the show with the aria “Mein Herr Marquis” from the opera Fledermaus by Johann Strauss. 

The audience will be treated with high vocal techniques mingled with amusement features of the work. The aria Olympia in the opera “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” (The Tales of Hoffmann) tells a story about a doll who can sing and dance via the performance of artist Vo Thuy Ngoc Tuyen.

Two pieces, “Bel raggio lusinghier” from the “Semiramide” opera by Rossini, and “Un’aura amorosa” from the “Cosi fan tutte” opera by Mozart, will be performed by Pham Khanh Ngoc and Pham Trang respectively, reflecting the complex inner soul of people in love.

“Flower Duet,” one of the most popular pieces for two sopranos’ voices from the “Lakmé” opera by Leo Delibes, will be played by meritorious artist Tran Hong Vy and Pham Dieu Huyen. 

“Brindisi” in the “La Traviata” opera by Giuseppe Verdi performed by Pham Trang and Pham Duyen Huyen is a piece for tenor and soprano voices. 

The song with its jubilant and joyful spirit of a party was once attached to the names of two late opera legends Luciano Pavarotti and Joan Sutherland.

The show will also feature many other popular duo pieces such as “Au fond du Temple Saint” in Bizert’s opera “Les pecheurs de perles” performed by Tran Duy Linh and Dao Mac and “La cidarem la mano” in Mozart’s opera “Don Giovanni” staged by Ly Hoang Kim and Vo Nguyen Thanh Tam.

Meanwhile,  Pham Khanh Ngoc and Vo Thuy Ngoc Tuyen will perform “Mira, o Norma” from Bellini’s opera “Norma”.

Powerful sounds of a chorus will echo in the performance of “Pres Des Torrents Qui Grondent” from the “William Tell” opera by Gioachino Rossini.

The venue of the show is the HCM City Opera House, 7 Lam Son Square, District 1, HCM City.
