Global sounds spotlighted at International New Music Festival in Vietnam
VOV.VN - The fourth International New Music Festival - Vietnam 2025 opened at the Vietnam National Academy of Music, Hanoi, on November 27, bringing together 300 artists from Asia, Europe and Oceania for a celebration of contemporary musical creativity.
In his opening remarks, Associate Professor Dr. Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism stressed that the festival, organised by the Vietnam Musicians’ Association, has become a significant milestone in the development of Vietnamese academic music.
The festival has evolved into a prestigious platform where talented composers and performers from around the world can meet, exchange ideas and premiere new works. It also contributes to the advancement of research, music theory and criticism in Vietnam, he noted.
Dr. Dong affirmed that the ministry would continue to support both Vietnamese and international composers and performers, helping to foster a professional and vibrant artistic environment.
Musician Nguyen Duc Trinh, President of the Vietnam Musicians’ Association, said that the festival helped to connect music lovers from different continents, including Asia and Europe, as well as artists from many other countries.
After editions held in 2014, 2016 and 2018, the festival returns following a long hiatus, reaffirming Vietnam’s position as an international destination for contemporary academic music. This year’s programme spans a wide spectrum of genres, from symphonic and chamber music to choir, folk-inspired pieces, instrumental ensembles and newly composed experimental works.
The opening night featured 11 academic compositions from artists across the globe. The concert began with a ballet suite by Vietnamese composer Do Hong Quan, conducted by the composer himself. Audiences were then treated to new works by Deqing Wen (Switzerland), Alexander Radvilovich (Russian Federation), Sanzhar Baiterekov (Kazakhstan), Morten Poulsen (Denmark), as well as a violin solo performance by young Vietnamese talent Phuong Nhi.
The festival will last through to December 1.
