Giant Mid-Autumn Festival chicken lantern draws lots of attention

VOV.VN - A monstrous Mid-Autumn Festival chicken lantern that was paraded around Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi on the evening of Friday, September 22, drew lots of raised eyebrows.

It’s part of a publicity stunt to promote a Dao ethnic group cultural festival in the town of Tuyen Quang, the capital of Tuyen Quang Province September 29-30, says a representative of the festival.

The huge chicken is four metres high and 10 metres long.

The giant chicken float is mounted on a 13-metre-long four wheeled chassis that is towed by a small tractor.

The float has a maximum speed of 20 kilometres per hour.

The giant chicken quickly catches the imagination of thousands as it passes around Hoan Kiem Lake, especially young children.

A simulated Red Dao wedding ceremony is also part of the parade.

Dao ethnic girls in colourful costume bring the essence of the mountain culture to the heart of the capital city of Hanoi.
