First Vietnamese action fantasy enjoys Cannes festival teaser
A five-minute trailer of the Vietnamese action fantasy Lua Phat (Once Upon a Time in Vietnam) has been presented to film distributors and international journalists at the Film Market of the 2013 Cannes International Film Festival.
A representative of BHD, the media company responsible for distributing the film, said the movie attracted the attention of filmmakers and about 300 film experts at the event held on May 17.
Daniel Guando, deputy president of the Weistein Company, one of the biggest independent American film studios, said he couldn’t help standing up and clapping after the film’s screening.
Previously titled Monk on Fire but re-titled Once Upon a Time in Vietnam, the film is described as an “Eastern Western” featuring motorbike-riding kung fu monks and large-scale battles.
Dustin Nguyen directed the film and also wrote the script.
The film is expected to premiere in Vietnam on August 22.
Another film from Vietnam, titled Duong Dua (The Race Track), by producer Hong Anh will also join the event.
