First festival honouring Áo bà ba slated for late September in Hau Giang
VOV.VN - The southern province of Hau Giang is set to host the first-ever festival celebrating Áo bà ba, a traditional outfit worn by people in the southern region from September 29 to October 1.
The festival will take place as part of several activities which aim to celebrate the 20th anniversary since the establishment of Hau Giang province.
The three-day event will consist of a wide range of activities, including an exhibition featuring Áo bà ba from the past to the present, various art performances, folk games, and events which showcase southern Vietnamese cuisine.
The highlight of the festival will be a fashion show held on September 29 aimed at introducing traditional outfits of the southern region to both locals and tourists.
A total of eight collections by 10 fashion designers featuring 500 outfits will be presented at the festival. On September 30 an award ceremony of a painting contest detailing the history of Hau Giang province will also be held.
The following day nearly 150 local people wearing Áo bà ba will model the unique outfits in a special fashion show.
Furthermore, festival-goers will have a chance to join folk games and take part in numerous cultural activities.
Visitors can also learn more about the distinctive local cuisine of Hau Giang through an array of popular dishes that will be showcased in a gastronomic corner.
