First cherry blossom festival brings highland culture to Tuyen Quang
VOV.VN - As part of efforts to build a distinctive tourism identity for Vietnam’s northern highlands, the People’s Committee of Lung Cu commune in Tuyen Quang province will, for the first time, host a cherry blossom festival during the 2026 New Year holiday.
The event, themed “Lung Cu – A meeting point of a thousand blooms,” is scheduled to take place on January 2-3, 2026, at the commune guesthouse area, where rows of cherry blossom trees are entering full bloom. The festival is expected to offer visitors an immersive experience that combines local culture with the striking scenery of the rocky highlands.
Beyond flower viewing, the festival will feature an open-air art space showcasing seasonal photography, alongside live painting sessions by local students beneath the cherry trees. Visitors will also have the opportunity to experience traditional crafts such as flax spinning, weaving and cloth-shoe making with the Giay people, as well as beeswax painting practiced by the Mong community.
Cultural activities will include folk games, traditional performances and village tours, while visitors can don traditional attire of the Lo Lo, Mong, Tay and Giay ethnic groups for photo opportunities amid the pink blossoms.
Local cuisine will also be a highlight, with food stalls serving regional specialties, giving a distinctive taste of Lung Cu in early winter.
According to Ma Doan Khanh, Vice Chairman of the Lung Cu People’s Committee, the festival is intended not only to honour natural beauty but also to gradually build a tourism brand associated with the area’s cherry blossoms.
“Through this festival, we aim to preserve traditional cultural values while creating opportunities for socio-economic development, positioning Lung Cu as an emerging destination on northern Vietnam’s tourism map,” Khanh said.
At present, cherry blossoms in the villages of Then Pa, San Tro and Ma Le have begun to bloom, forming pink stretches along local roads. With thorough preparation, the inaugural cherry blossom festival is expected to mark a promising start for local tourism in 2026.
